In 2004, Callum Mansfield and Jack Chambers decided to combine their years of performing together into a dance show concept called BIG BLACK BOX. With just an idea and no where to perform it, they pitched the proposal to Harvest Rain Theatre Company's company director, Tim O'Connor.
|
The show was approved and the season opened in 2005 to sold out audiences at the Sydney St Theatre, New Farm. After a successful run, Tim O'Connor invited the show back for a second season in 2006.
After the success of Big Black Box, there was a high demand for choreography and dance entertainment in Brisbane. As a result, Callum Mansfield launched Velocity Dance Studio as the dance entity of one of the largest independant theatre companies in Australia, Harvest Rain.
In 2008, the company spread its wings and relocated from the Sydney St Theatre to the Mina Parade Warehouse in Alderley, and began a partnership with QPAC that saw all of the main-house productions staged at the Queensland Performing Arts Complex.
